July Currently…

So it’s been awhile, I don’t know what to say other than I have just been out of it a bit. I have so many ideas, and have taken so many pictures/videos but just haven’t been able to really sit down and do much. However I do want to share some of my currents, so here we go.

Doing:

So I’ve been busy being out and about with the family since it’s summer and we’re trying to soak up all the sun we can. I made it to the beach, but it was late so I couldn’t go swimming. I hope that will change soon. I have also been busy finally trying to launch our chapter of Geek Girl Brunch. This is super exciting since I’ve been trying for awhile now, and have just not been able to for various reasons.

TV:

I’m working through a few shows including OITNB, Preacher, Fear of the Walking Dead, Psych (rewatching), and Mr. Robot just to name a few.

Gaming:

I have been playing more games, which is making me happy and have even began streaming on Twitch. Feel free to check me out if you’d like, drop by and say hi if you see me around: Mermaid Kisses on Twitch. I only have one video up due to the fact that I didn’t realize I hadn’t selected the option to archive my streams. I’ll have another post going into more detail on the games I’ve been playing.

Reading:

I’m so behind on reading, I have two books to finish and review. I should have those up by the end of the month, early August.

General:

Overall I’m just kinda out of sorts and I don’t really know why. It’s weird. I have no motivation, but I have been keeping up with walking/jogging on my days off, and other self care things. I see myself slipping into depression again a bit, but the usual stuff that helps isn’t really cutting it. I do have some time off scheduled in the next few weeks and I’m hoping this will help.

Some good news, me and the familia were able to secure our tickets for NYCC. It was so stressful, and at first I thought we would be out a ticket. Thankfully for online friends, someone helped me out and we were able to secure the last ticket we needed (max # of tickets you can buy is 4, and my family is 5). So I’m excited to have that out the way, and know we’re in.
So that’s it in a nutshell. I hope to get back into the swing of things, and finally get around to posting both here and on my YouTube channel, along with more streams on Twitch.

What are some of your currents?

Just wanted to share this because after this past week’s madness I think we all need some good vibes. Take care of yourselves, and be safe.

Xoxo,

NYCC 2015

Hello. It’s been awhile and I’ve been meaning to post, but life has been busy. This semester is really keeping me busy, good thing there’s only 6 weeks left. I wanted to share some pictures and video from our trip to New York Comic Con. Me and my family have been going for about the past 4 years and we really look forward to it.

This year however even though we enjoyed ourselves there were a couple of negatives. One of the biggest let downs was the lack of panels. I thought I was the only one that thought the panels were lacking, but after discussions with others this was one of the main complaints across the board. The other part was how crowded it was. Don’t get me wrong I expect a crowd but this year it was massive. Also it seemed people were a little less friendly this year. Not everyone of course, but more than usual. I’m also disappointed I didn’t get to meet as many of you fabulous people as I wanted to. Time was limited and the crowd made it hard to get around.

We still had a good time and my little guy left on cloud nine after receiving so many compliments on his cheeseburger back pack. He was Steven Universe and had a blast taking pictures with people. Here are a few pictures from the day and a video. E

Anyone else go to NYCC? What were your highlights? Did you encounter any problems? What con will you be attending next?

XOXO

5 Fandom Friday: Things I Love About Fall

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a 5 Fandom Friday so I’m excited to join back in. As most people know Summer is my jam, so it’s hard for me to let go and embrace fall. However once I come to terms with it I do enjoy it.

1. Football

As far back as I can remember I loved football, more importantly the Dallas Cowboys. My love of it came from spending hours on Sundays watching it with my stepfather. As a kid I would try to mimick the hand gestures the referees made when making calls, as an adult I still do the same thing. My love for the Cowboys however is my own since my stepfather is not a fan. I couldn’t tell you what made me pick them as a kid since I had no clue about stats and so, but I’ve loved them since. If you follow me on Twitter you may have already seen some of my football tweets, if not be prepared because they’re coming.

2. New York Comic Con

I have been attending NYCC with my hubby and kids the past four years and we love it. This year however tickets were especially hard to get (if any of you here tried I’m sure you know the struggle was real). We still need one more ticket for my hubby and are hoping to get lucky.  We won’t be taking Squish yet because I just feel like he’s too small, but I can’t wait until we can. Most years one of my kids makes his own cosplay and this year is no different. If you’re attending and see me there feel free to say hi!

3. The Walking Dead

I’ve been a fan since the first episode and miss this show so much while it’s off. I mark my calendar and even set a countdown. As much as I love The Walking Dead I have yet to go to a panel and honestly I may never because the line and wait for it is insane.

4. The colors

A picture is worth a thousand words and I guess I really don’t have to get into it much. The turning of leaves is just beautiful.

5. Halloween

I love desssing up, the hayrides, carving pumpkins, and all the horror movies. Oh and the candy of course.

While nothing beats summer, fall comes close. What are some of your fall favorites?

New York Comic Con (Part 1)

Hello lovelies. I’ve been a bit MIA due to spending the past weekend at New York Comic Con with the family. We had a great time but man were we exhausted after it was done. We didn’t get to get into The Walking Dead panel, but we did get to go to a few others which I’ll cover in my next NYCC post. Today I’ll just be posting pictures of some of the amazing Cosplayers we saw and a few items on the floor.

*If you see yourself in any of the pictures please contact me so I can credit you, thanks.*

Loved her spin on Loki. One of my favorites.Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

Another fun group. They were so awesome and were even moving like the players in the game. IMG_0103This was from the Eastern Championship Cosplay competition. The contestants all did such an amazing job. I was blown away by the size and detail of this Rex and the fact that there’s a gal in there. She did an amazing job.

This gentleman won the overall competition. The wingspan on this dragon and the little details like the guy hanging off the back really put it over the top. Can’t wait to see what he does for C2E2.

We really enjoyed being able to attend the competition. You could just tell that everyone put a lot of hard work into their costumes. I’m sure the judges had a hard time picking winners, I know I for one wouldn’t have wanted to be the one to have to do so. Everyone who competed are winners in my eyes.

This is but a small fraction of what we saw. I’ve been inspired and am thinking of doing a cosplay of my own next year, perhaps something steampunk.

Do you cosplay? Would you like to?

Hello October….

IMG_0089.JPG

Here we are face to face with October already. I feel like I just wrote my September post yesterday. I’m a little behind so let’s just jump into it.

To Do/Goals:

1. Watch all of the shows. So many shows are starting up in October, on my top to watch list: The Walking Dead of course, American Horror Story, and Flash among others that I’m sure fly watching.
2. Speaking of shows, beginning season 2 of Hannibal. Love it!
3. Get back into my workout routine. I hit a slump and lost steam but I’m back to it.
4. Keep up my grades in my two classes.
5. Schedule posts!!! This one is carrying over from September and is on top of my blogging “To Do” list.
6. Post more recipes on the blog.
7. Meet awesome people at New York Comic Con.

What are your goals/to dos for October?

Bits and Pieces

Hello lovelies. Last week I was taken out by the worst sinus infection. Actually almost all the camp here was suffering through something, allergies or asthma due to the change of weather. Needless to say between that and class I was very unproductive when it came to here which is why I just putting together some bits and pieces from last week for today’s post (this post is full of Squish pics, be warned).

Being sick and a mom doesn’t mean mommy duties stop. While the Mr did let me rest and took over when he was home, I still had to attend to the kiddos when he wasn’t.

IMG_0044.JPG
Squish was all about playtime, and even with a pounding headache how could I say no??

IMG_0045.JPG
The middle child and the Mr. worked on his Pipboy for New York Comic Con next week.

IMG_0047.JPG
The oldest turned 15 (man time flies!!) so we took him to Red Robin. I was pretty miserable there because of a sinus headache and it was so loud. Judging by this pic I think Squish thought it was too loud too.

IMG_0046.JPG
I tried enjoying my Banzai burger but again when you’re sick your tastebuds don’t function properly. Overall we had a good time and the oldest was pleased.

IMG_0042.JPG
Lastly I’m super excited for the return of The Walking Dead. Here’s a bit of my Funko collection, I’m still working on completing TWD minis and regular sized Pop! sets.

While being sick sucked it made me realize something, I need to schedule more posts and keep some drafts on hand. Had I had something thought out, or scheduled already I could’ve just published those instead of attempting to blog while sick and coming up with nothing. So that’s another thing I’m adding to my to do list.

What are some of your blogging tips or to dos?

Happiness Is…

So after the last post I didn’t want to stay hanging on a bummed out note, which is why I decided to write something more upbeat and happy. Here is a list of what happiness is to me right now.

Getting Into the Swing of Things

So as I talked about before I am back at work and it’s been taking awhile to adjust. Well here we are week 3 and I’m still finding myself not being able to juggle everything I would like. Therefore I’ve been unable to post here even though I have been working out and trying out recipes. However this week seems to be going better and it’s just a matter of tweeking my schedule a bit to make time to blog.

With that being said I’m just going to throw a few time saving tips out there. I’m sure some of you may have heard of some of these, but I’ll put them up cause sometimes we forget.

Prepackage Your Meat
Whenever I go grocery shopping once I get home I open up any meat products I have bought, season it and divide up in ziplock bags in appropriate portions. That way I can just grab a bag in the morning and set out to thaw. It’s quick, easy and I always have the right amount of meat needed.

Frozen/Packaged Vegetables
While I prefer my vegetables to be fresh I do pick up pre-packaged or frozen vegetables also. Many times I’ve been running late from work or forgot to prep lunch and a bag of veggies has come in handy. Just toss them in the microwave for a few minutes and that’s that. I also love the sweet potatoes that in plastic wrap, again a few minutes in the microwave and you have a yummy addition to your meal.

Prep Your Smoothies
I have a smoothie for breakfast most mornings. I have begun prepping for my smoothies too. I grab my ingredients for my smoothies, strawberries, bananas, kale, spinach, et cetera and ziplock bags. I then divide into bags the combinations of fruits and vegetables I want to use in my shakes each day. Then during the morning I toss my ice, almond milk, protein, and anything else I want along with the contents from a bag. It saves me the time of going through my fridge, pulling out my ingredients, washing them and cutting them up. Believe every minute counts in the morning.

I hope these tips can help you like they help me. Most of us are busy and on the run. It can be chaotic at times, so why not do little things that can help make things run smooth.

What are some of your time saving tips? I would love to hear them. Comment or send me an email with them.

PS: Since this is Geeky Glam Fit I will be posting non health/fitness related topics in the future. Stay tune for game/movie reviews, a look into some of my obsessions, and my trip to New York Comic Com in the fall.
