Hello, the lovely gals over at The Nerdy Girlie and Super Space Chick are hosting a link up every Friday called 5 Fandom Friday where they’ll have nerdy/geeky prompts for the upcoming couple of Fridays. I’m super excited to participate and read all the geeky things everyone’s into. Today’s 5 Fandom Friday: Gateway fandoms that made me who I am today.
1. Horror Movies

I grew up in the era of Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and all other fabulous horror flicks. I remember waking up and sneaking off to the living room to watch Night of the Living Dead, only to be scared to go back to sleep. I couldn’t get enough, I was hooked!! My love for horror/zombie flicks is carries on till this day. I do prefer the older horror flicks to the ones that come out now, but I’m always down to go watch the new releases.
2. The Little Mermaid

I was about 8 years old when this movie came out and I have been hooked on it and mermaids since. I wanted to be a part of Ariel’s world so bad. I then saw Splash a few years later and I was convinced that I would turn into a mermaid like Daryl Hannah and be able to live underwater. Needless to say that never happened but I’m still convinced I’m part mermaid.
3. Harry Potter

What can I say I’m a Potterhead through and through. From the minute I read the first book it was love. I waited what seemed like forever in between releases of the books and movies. Going to the Wizarding World was a dream come true. I’m pretty sure I was more excited than my kids were to be there. My middle son is just as into it as me and we often geek out together about all things HP. We can’t wait to go back to The Wizarding World and enjoy the new attractions that have been added.
4. Oregon Trail

Let me tell y’all about one of the first computer games I ever played, Oregon Trail. This game was the shizz. Everyone would try to finish their work as fast as possible to be able to get on and play. The game was basically you trying to get this covered wagon through the Oregon Trail. Oh but it wasn’t a ride downtown now, oh no you had to deal with 19th century hardships. Snake bites, trying to hunt bear/deer to eat, floods, people dying the whole nine yards. This was some exciting stuff, who would make it to the end with the least casualties, will your wheel break today, were you going to be able to cross the river?? I played for months on end.
5. X-Men Animated Series

So back in my day we didn’t have Cartoon Network and 24 hour cartoon channels. Cartoons were aired for about 1 or 2 after school Monday through Friday and all Saturday morning. Man did I look forward to Saturday mornings. One of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons was the X-Men. They were the coolest thing out there, I had no idea that mutants could be this rad. It was like my novela, I looked forward to every new episode and could not be bothered while it was on.
This was a fun stroll down memory lane. I’m looking forward to next week’s link up.
