Guess what? I was pleased with what I saw and heard. I think it’s just refreshing to see superstars be everyday people like you and me. Now I’m fully aware that many of the rich and famous play video games, however seeing it first hand is pretty awesome. As I watched and heard some of his comments, he became more like one of us. When he says at one point he was proud to have killed an opponent on Overwatch, I thought to myself that’s how I feel too when I finally eliminate someone. Check out video of his stream and see for yourself what the hype is about (you have to get about 7 or so minutes in before he appears). Currently his game of choice seems to be Overwatch on PC, but he’s also played Doom.
Not sure how long this will last, or how frequent it will be. What I am sure of is that as long as he’s streaming, I’ll pop in and watch when I can. He’s commentary and peppering in of vocals (and yes he has a set of pipes) is everything. I’m here for gamer T Pain.
I’m Mermaidkisses on Twitch, as of now I have yet to stream, but plan to one day. Are you one Twitch? Let’s follow each other. If you don’t stream who are some of your favorite streamers?
Hello cupcakes. Today I’m excited to be participating in a blog linkup for the Facebook group Geek Girl Bloggers. The lovely Danielle over at From Girlie to Nerdy was gracious enough to host the exchange. The theme for the exchange was Spring Fling, which I loved. Danielle then went ahead and paired everyone secretly and it was up to us to find out more about the person we were assigned to and send something out to them. I’ll be honest because of school I didn’t have much time to go out and buy things, but thankfully Etsy saved the day. I was assigned to Ashlee over at Her Geekery. At first I wasn’t sure what to go with, but that’s part of the fun.
As for the person that was assigned to me, that would be the amazing Dina from DinaFarmer.com. Guys I couldn’t be happier with my gifts. Imagine my surprise and delight when I received a package and opened it to find a Little Mermaid mug and coloring book!!! I loved them both, and the mug is one of my faves. I’m actually scared to use it cause I don’t want anything to happen to it. Thanks so much Dina!!
This was a fun exchange and I look forward to doing more in the future. Thanks again to Daniele for hosting. Now I’m off to sip some tea out of my rad mug.
Hello! Today I’m happy to share my unboxing of the Gudetama Cafe blind boxes. These blind boxes are made by Rement, and are a little different than some of the other blind boxes out there. Unlike the Funko blind boxes, these are more of a set of items. Depending on the line it could be food, household items, school supplies, etc. The Gudetama Cafe ones are all food related, which I’m surer you figured out from the name.
I really enjoyed doing this video and plan on doing more in the future. I like that these are sets of things as oppose to just a figure, because I feel like I can use these to take some cute pictures with my Figmas and Sailor Moon figures. Don’t worry I’m still a fan of the Funko blind boxes, mainly the horror ones, and The Walking Dead line; and I plan on doing unboxing videos of those in the future.
Do you like blind boxes? Which are some of your favorites?
Hello cupcakes. Today I want to give a quick review for Creed. During the Thanksgiving break I was able to breakaway from studying for a few hours to catch a flick with the Mr. We decided to watch Creed. I know many people were like yeah that’s what we need another “Rocky” movie when they heard about this. I get it, the last couple bombed. However me being the Rocky fan that I am, I was looking froward to see where this movie would go.
I hate doing reviews because I never want to give away too much, but then sometimes I feel like I don’t give enough. First off can I say it wasn’t another “Rocky” movie per say. Yeah Stallone played Balboa, and it had to do with boxing; but it wasn’t about Rocky. It was about Apollo’s son and his coming into himself. It was kind of like a Rocky spinoff. So I don’t think these are spoilers but just in case here’s some of the details. The movie starts off in a juvenile detention center in California, where we meet a young Adonis Creed; Apollo’s son. A woman shows up which we immediately recognize as being Apollo’s wife, and takes Adonis home. We fast forward to present time, and soon find out that Adonis is following in his father’s footsteps, well somewhat. It isn’t so easy for him to find someone who wants to train him, he’s sorta blacklisted. He then picks up and heads out to Philadelphia, where he seeks out Balboa. However what kind of movie would it be if Rocky just agreed to being his trainer? So they have their back and forth before Rocky finally agrees.
So that’s the overall gist of it. Along the way young Creed finds a love interest, battles some inner conflict, and tried to figure out his place in all this.
Why I liked this movie, and you will too: well there are a few reasons. It sticks to the whole sports, overcoming barriers shtick without over doing it. It gives us what we want without making it obvious. I mean after all you came to see Creed, you kinda already know what you’re in store for. Yet it’s so much more than just boxing, even though that plays a big role. It’s also about human connections, and has a way of jabbing you right in the feels here and there (see what I did there? No? ok). It gets a bit corny, and that’s way okay. It’s not overdone, and peppered in nicely. even if you have no clue about boxing you can enjoy this movie. They do a nice job of keeping you in the loop. Can I just add that the cinematography, which was by Maryse Alberti (The Wrestler), was spot on. Her work behind the lens made it easy to keep up with. And if you do follow boxing you’ll enjoyed the professionals from the boxing world that make cameos in the movie. Another aspect I enjoyed a lot was the music selection made. How many times have you been watching a movie and a song starts to play where you’re like um… no. With Creed I felt like all the music fit, and helped get you in the current mood it was going for.
Overall I really enjoyed the movie. The story was sorta expected; but not in a bad way, yet it also threw a curveball. The acting from all of the cast was great. I really enjoy this side of Stallone more than his usual tough guy roles. He’s funny, in his Balboa way. Michael B. Jordan was spot on, and I look forward to seeing more from him in future roles. A plus for me as a frequent visitor of Philadelphia was the scenery, and being able to recognize the locations. Even if you’ve never visited Philadelphia, I think most people are familiar with the famous “Rocky steps”, which of course had to be included. I give this film a 8 out of 10, and recommend it to everyone even if you’re not a fan of the Rocky franchise.
Did you watch Creed? What were your thoughts? Have you watched the first Rocky movie? What movies are you looking forward to watching?
I look forward to being able to catch up and reviewing loads of movies, and shows while on winter break. Shoot me some recommendations.
Hello Cupakes. I’ve been MIA for a bit due to school. However I’ve had this “Get Ready With Me’ video sitting, and finally had time to edit and upload. School will be done in two weeks and I plan on working on loads of content. Hopefully I can schedule some stuff before the next semester rolls around. In the meantime I’ll leave you with my video. Hope you guys enjoy it. Check back soon, I’m hoping to host a giveaway before Christmas if time allows it.
What kind of videos would you like to see? Suggestions are always welcomed.
Hello. It’s been awhile and I’ve been meaning to post, but life has been busy. This semester is really keeping me busy, good thing there’s only 6 weeks left. I wanted to share some pictures and video from our trip to New York Comic Con. Me and my family have been going for about the past 4 years and we really look forward to it.
This year however even though we enjoyed ourselves there were a couple of negatives. One of the biggest let downs was the lack of panels. I thought I was the only one that thought the panels were lacking, but after discussions with others this was one of the main complaints across the board. The other part was how crowded it was. Don’t get me wrong I expect a crowd but this year it was massive. Also it seemed people were a little less friendly this year. Not everyone of course, but more than usual. I’m also disappointed I didn’t get to meet as many of you fabulous people as I wanted to. Time was limited and the crowd made it hard to get around.
We still had a good time and my little guy left on cloud nine after receiving so many compliments on his cheeseburger back pack. He was Steven Universe and had a blast taking pictures with people. Here are a few pictures from the day and a video. E
Anyone else go to NYCC? What were your highlights? Did you encounter any problems? What con will you be attending next?
Hello cupcakes. I’ve always been fascinated by what’s in my bag videos. It’s fun to see what other people carry, and if any of them have some of the dame things I do. So I decided to do a what’s in my schoolbag video since it is back to school times. I hope everyone enjoys it, and if you would like to see a regular what’s in my bag video let me know and I’ll be happy to do so. As always feedback and suggestions are welcome.
Hello and welcome back. A few weeks back I tweeted about wanting to get into comics and began to start looking into which ones to read. Over and over The Wicked + The Divine by Image Comics kept popping up, and with good reason. If you recall from my last post I mentioned that I begun to read The Wicked + The Divine. The comic began in June of 2014, and is published monthly, so I didn’t feel like I was too far behind.
Let me try to get into why without giving too much away. The comic revolves around the fact that every 90 years twelve mythical figures are reincarnated as young adults with godlike powers, minus the immortality that is. For 2 years they get to live like gods and then they die, so goes the story. We then meet a regular British gal named Laura that gets caught up with the current 12 Pantheon. While first drawn to this lifestyle, she soon starts to realize things aren’t all she expected it to be.
Why I like it, and you will to:
Well besides the main plot of mortal gods that have 2 years to live it up, there’s representation. I’m not just talking about diversity as far as races, but sexuality, and even when it comes to the gods (they don’t just stick to Greek or Roman, there’s also Norse, Celtic, and many more). Honestly this was one of the big things that really drew me in. I love representation and this comic is chock full of it. It’s refreshing to see people from all walks of life in a role of power. I also like that the characters morality vary also from good, to wicked and everything in between.
Of course there’s more to it but I don’t want to give away too much. I myself have only gotten up to book 5, but I can tell you they have a loyal reader already. I can’t wait to buy the other issues and catch up with the story. Oh and did I mention there’s talks of adapting it into a TV series? If this pans up I’m all for it!
So now we get to the fun part. Since I’m hooked on this comic I want to share my love of it with you. I’m giving you the opportunity to win your very own copy of Vol 1 which is issues 1-5 of The Wicked + The Divine. All you have to do is follow the instructions on how to enter. Contest runs until September 24, 2015 (which just so happens to be my kid’s birthday).
Hello and welcome back to another 6 on 6 post. If you aren’t familiar with 6 on 6 feel free to read about it here. This link up is bought to you by Emma, so be sure to check her site out. This month’s color is purple.
Here are my 6 purple picks for this month:
I’m kind of a makeup junkie and am always trying new things. Lately I’ve been all about matte lipsticks, however when I saw this Melted Metal lipstick by Too Faced in Metallic Jelly I just had to have it. The color is perfect for fall and I love the metallic looking flecks in it.
Some of you that follow me on Twitter Instagram may already know I’m into Animal Crossing. I love everything about it, but I especially love constantly changing my character up. It’s hard to see here but my person is sporting some lavender pigtails.
I love notebooks, journals, all types of writing products. However when it comes to school I prefer these smaller sized notebooks by Five Star. As I was back to school shopping I came across this cute floral one I had to have. I’m currently using it for both my Chemistry and ASL class but am thinking of buying another and using one for each class.
A few weeks back I decided I wanted to get into some comics. I started to ask for recommendations and read reviews, across the board The Wicked + The Divine by Image Comics came up over and over. It’s about a group of teenagers that have been transformed into Gods, however they are not immortals. I don’t want to get too into here because I have a post all about it coming up this week where I’ll be giving away Vol 1 to one lucky person. Be sure to check back for my review and to enter the giveaway.
Okay so technically my niece isn’t purple, but how could I pass up the opportunity to show her off in this cute purple outfit?Being that I have all boys having a niece is an excuse for me to buy all of the cute girl outfits and hair bows. My kids adore their cousin and I’m sure you’ll be see plenty of all them in upcoming posts.
So while I didn’t take this picture I couldn’t have a post about purple things without mentioning one of my favorite podcast Welcome to Night Vale. This podcast is about a made up dessert town called Night Vale. It’s posted twice a month and talks about life in Night Vale. Listen along as Ceceil reports all the going ons, like mayor elections, what the Glow Cloud and it’s kid have been up to, the Faceless Old Woman who secretly lives in your home, and the weather. I was hooked from the first time I listened and am excited for the book to come out in October.
These are my 6 on 6 pictures let me know if you participated, I would love to see everyone else’s posts.
Hello cupcakes. Today I bring to you my review for Erik Larson and Tony Goldwyn’s The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair Changed That America. I had been wanting to read this book for the past year or so. I hard so many great reviews and well it has a serial killer so you know I was all about it. The book revolves around the Daniel H. Burnham, the architect for Chicago’s 1893 World Fair, and H. H. Holmes, a serial killer disguised as a doctor who took advantage of the huge amounts of people flocking to the city.
As I mentioned before I’m all about serial killers and had heard about Holmes and his Murder Castle before so I was excited to dive into this. However once I started reading it my enthusiasm died down. While I knew the book wouldn’t be entirely about Holmes I found it dragged on when it came to the parts dealing with the construction of the fair. At times I found I had to force myself to keep reading just to make progress. It wasn’t like this the whole time, but yeah you may loose interest here and there (or not, my attention span is short). While I enjoyed reading about the fair and the challenges faced by the creators I wish there had been more on Holmes. With that being said the writers did get into some of his murders and how he ultimately got caught. I’m amazed with the scams and lies Holmes pulled off, along with the killings of course but can see how it happened. The writers paint a good picture of life surrounding the fair.
Overall I can say I was a bit disappointed but it wasn’t a total let down. If you’re looking to give it a read go for it, but be warned there might be parts that are drawn out. I give it a 3 out of 5 stars. What kind of books do you like to read? Any recommendations?
