A lot of people may know that I love photography. Taking pictures, looking at pictures others have taken, it all makes me so happy. A little over a year ago I invested in a nicer camera, and had all the intentions of getting to know it in and out. Well things happened and I had to put all that on hold. During my break I picked up my camera again, and the spark was ignitated again. I was out and about clicking away, I even met up with a friend for a mini sneaker shoot. It’s been so much fun taking pictures and editing. With school back in session and it getting dark earlier it’s going to be tricky heading out to shoot, but I’m going to try and do so every other week.
Here’s some of my pictures from the summer. I posted some of these on IG @Xo_MermaidKisses and I made a separate IG account just for my pictures for me to see and keep track. Sort of as a learning tool to see progress. You’re more than welcome to give it a look and follow if you want: @DVA.Frames.
What are your hobbies? Is there something you would like to get into or learn?
It’s been too long, but I won’t apologize. I had to take some time off and just enjoy life. Don’t get me wrong, I missed blogging, and you guys; but after the semester I had I decided to enjoy the summer with my family. Guess what, it was the right thing to do. I don’t believe that blogging should be forced, it should be something that makes you happy (mostly, there are some headaches attached), and content should come naturally. I wasn’t in a space where I could really give it my all, because my mind just wasn’t there. That’s not to say I didn’t think about my blog, or posts; I did and came up with loads of great ideas. I took tons of pictures to go along with the posts too. Now it’s just a matter of editing and posting. I also have video to edit for my YouTube channel, and am thinking of revamping things over there, so be on the lookout for that.
I know being consistent is key when it comes to the “blogging world”, and I really want to be as consistent as possible; however life for me isn’t so consistent. Work is not a regular 9-5, I have school, kids, and other life events. I can’t promise I’ll be here 2x a week, or that I won’t take a break again. What I can promise is to be honest, and try to provide you with some great content, and maybe a laugh or two. With I that being said I’ll be around more, but some rings will be changing here also. I want to share a bit more of my life with everyone, so I’ll be doing some “life updates” from time to time, along with other things I’ll start incorporating.
Thank you to those who have stuck around. I appreciate you all, and can’t wait to start posting more. I’m also slowl trying to catch up on blogs and videos (I’ve been slacking hard!). In the meantime I’m off to enjoy some of the warm summer weather before the cold rolls around.
How was your summer? Did you do you take any special trips, or do anything special? XOXO,
So it’s been awhile, I don’t know what to say other than I have just been out of it a bit. I have so many ideas, and have taken so many pictures/videos but just haven’t been able to really sit down and do much. However I do want to share some of my currents, so here we go.
So I’ve been busy being out and about with the family since it’s summer and we’re trying to soak up all the sun we can. I made it to the beach, but it was late so I couldn’t go swimming. I hope that will change soon. I have also been busy finally trying to launch our chapter of Geek Girl Brunch. This is super exciting since I’ve been trying for awhile now, and have just not been able to for various reasons.
I’m working through a few shows including OITNB, Preacher, Fear of the Walking Dead, Psych (rewatching), and Mr. Robot just to name a few.
I have been playing more games, which is making me happy and have even began streaming on Twitch. Feel free to check me out if you’d like, drop by and say hi if you see me around: Mermaid Kisses on Twitch. I only have one video up due to the fact that I didn’t realize I hadn’t selected the option to archive my streams. I’ll have another post going into more detail on the games I’ve been playing.
I’m so behind on reading, I have two books to finish and review. I should have those up by the end of the month, early August.
Overall I’m just kinda out of sorts and I don’t really know why. It’s weird. I have no motivation, but I have been keeping up with walking/jogging on my days off, and other self care things. I see myself slipping into depression again a bit, but the usual stuff that helps isn’t really cutting it. I do have some time off scheduled in the next few weeks and I’m hoping this will help.
Some good news, me and the familia were able to secure our tickets for NYCC. It was so stressful, and at first I thought we would be out a ticket. Thankfully for online friends, someone helped me out and we were able to secure the last ticket we needed (max # of tickets you can buy is 4, and my family is 5). So I’m excited to have that out the way, and know we’re in.
So that’s it in a nutshell. I hope to get back into the swing of things, and finally get around to posting both here and on my YouTube channel, along with more streams on Twitch.
What are some of your currents?
Just wanted to share this because after this past week’s madness I think we all need some good vibes. Take care of yourselves, and be safe.
Hello loves. Earlier this month Vans released their line in collaboration with Nintendo. Being an 80s baby I fell instantly in love with the old school Nintendo themes. My kiddos also picked a pair each. The lovely weather this past weekend was perfect to head outdoors and get some pics.
3 out of the 4 (1 of my guys is missing here) decided to go with the NES controller style. We picked up the Mario and Luigi pair for Squish.
How cute are the hi tops for toddlers!
I’m really digging the hi tops version. Seeing them on my oldest son’s feet makes me want to go out and get a pair of my own.
I like that “Game Over” was added to the bottoms of the sneakers.
I didn’t get a chance to take photos of the Zelda slip ons I picked up, but check back later in the week and I’ll have a post about them. I have to admit that these are my favorite collaboration that Vans has done so far. They’re so fun and nostalgic. Check out the rest of the line including Princess Peach and Donkey Kong. Did you pick up anything from the release? Which ones are your favorite?
Some of my picks from Playstation’s 2016 E3 conference.
On Monday night I like thousands of others found myself in front of a screen to watch Playstation’s E3 stream. I won’t be writing about all the titles from the event, or else this post will get too long. I will however share some of the ones that jumped out at me.
They kicked things off with an orchestra playing while a gameplay demo of God of War was shown. We see Kratos and his son (I wish it would have been his daughter but ok), and a huge screen filling boss. While I never really got into the God of War franchise I could see myself playing this one.
From there it was nonstop with Sony doing little talking, and instead just showing titles. I won’t complain about that at all. We saw Days Gone by Bend Studio, an open world zombie apocalypse world kind of game. It gave me a vibe of Sons of Anarchy, zombie edition. I’m still deciding on whether or not I’ll be paying this.
Sony also gave us a release date for The Last Guardian due out October 25, 2016. This was a pleasant surprise since I honestly wasn’t expecting a date in 2016. I’ll be getting the tissues ready for this one, based of the trailer I’m sure I’m going to cry at some point.
Horizon: Zero Dawn has my full attention. Bad ass archer gal killing robo-dinosaurs? I’m here for it. The footage looked great, and you get dialogue wheel to choose options from. while watching footage it looks like time is slowed down when you’re trying to shoot your bow (not sure if this is correct, or if it will always be done), which is great for me since I’m not the best at aiming. Look for this to be released February 28, 2017.
The announcement of PlayStation VR being release October 13, 2016 caught a lot of people of guard. Originally there were rumors that it wouldn’t be ready until some time in 2017. Sony has said there will be about 50 games come release date with many more to come including Batman: Arkham, Star Wars Battlefront, and Metal Gear Solid among others.
However the one I’m most excited for is Resident Evil 7 biohazard. Guys before I even knew what I was watching I thought to myself okay this is giving me Resident Evil vibes, and sure enough that’s what it was. It’s going to be completely VR from start to finish. I’m not sure if my heart will be able to take horror and VR together, but I know I have to try this out.
Sony then pulled out all the stops when Hideo Kojima was bought on stage to announce his game Death Stranding. Okay so the trailer is elusive, and we’re not exactly sure what it will consist of, but the fact the Kojima is working on a collaboration has given me high hopes, and was the highlight of the conference. I can’t really explain this game other than saying butt naked, pregnant Norman Reedus, holding a baby. Yeah I know it sounds so bizarre, which is why you have to watch the trailer and you’ll see what I mean.
All in all I’m loving what I saw last night. I haven’t watched any of the other conferences so I can’t compare how Xbox fares to PlayStation, however the overall feeling I got from others who watched both seems to be that Sony knocked it out the ballpark. While we’re still anticipating release dates for many other titles *cough Kingdom Hearts 3 cough*, it was nice to see dates on many of the games announces last night; including the Crash Bandicoot series being remastered for PS4 due to be out sometime in 2017!
Have you watched any of the E3 streams? What games are you looking forward to?
Quick update and a giveaway for a Happy Planner by Me & My Big Ideas.
Hello cupcakes and welcome back. I’m super excited to be running another giveaway on blog. This time it’s for a Happy Planner from Me & My Big Ideas. I’ve been using planners for awhile now, but this is the first time I’ll be using a Happy Planner. I picked mine up about a month ago, and fell in love. I started to decorate it already, I couldn’t help myself. I have so many stickers I use from my other planners just calling out to be used.

Some of my good things and vibes from the past month.
Hello cupcakes and welcome back to another Sparkly Vibes post. If you remember from my first post I wanted to highlight some of the good things that have been happening. I think it’s a good way to reflect, and be thankful.
Free time with my family. It’s been so nice just being able to spend time with them. I could get use to not having classes. I have to enjoy it before they ramp up in August.
Online friends. Guys you are so awesome, and inspiring! Honestly I can’t believe how supportive you are.
Traveling to NYC. It’s been too long since our last trip. So I was all for going this past weekend.
Mac lobster…. so so good. We went to the Mac Bar in Soho and this was so yummy.
Overwatch, if you been on my SnapChat you’ve seen that I’ve been playing just about everyday. And what is especially nice is that I won my copy from the guys over at Astral Authority.
Twitch: I actually streamed and plan on doing more streaming. It’s been fun not just watching gamers, but people streaming other things like their cosplay process. Check out XoMiaMoore over there, and Imperialgrrl who Mia recommended and I’m glad she did. I’m streaming over at MermaidKisses feel free to add me.
Booking my first cruise. It’s not until 2018, but I’m so excited to be going with my family.
My Happy Planner, guys I think I finally found the right planner for me. I love it so much I’m going to be giving one away later this month. Check back for that.
Lemonade, it’s Bey what else can I say.
Summer, yay!!! I’m all about the beach and warm weather. I have noticed an improvement in my mood ever since the sun started staying out longer.
What are some of the good things that have happened to you? Share your sparkly vibes with me.
Hello cupcakes and welcome back. Today I want to share with you two games I’m currently addicted with. They help me kill time in between my meetings.
So as the title suggests this is pretty much a stacking game. The pieces move back and forth and you have to tap it at the right time to stack it on top of each other. Easy right? Not so easy actually. Whenever you miss stacking it correctly whatever amount or piece that’s hanging over the edge falls off, which now makes your piece smaller. And the higher you get the faster the pieces move back and forth. I’ve only made it to about 47 or so. It’s really entertaining and the color schemes are nice to look at. Every time you start a new game a new color scheme starts. The pieces start off as one color and gradually change.
Of course I’m playing Sailor Drops, how could I not. It’s a puzzle game where you match up lines of jewels (like Candy Crush but jewels instead), in order to score. Different combinations of matching make a special jewel. The levels vary from regular ole beat the score, to timed ones, collect the accessories, and one where you’re up against the villain. Everything is extra fun because of the Sailor Moon theme, well at least to me it is. However there are some downs. Initially it kinda lags a bit to start up, not like crazy but enough to be annoying at times. Also you get interrupted by the characters. Like you’ll be on a roll and all of a sudden whoever you’re playing as will pop up and cheer. While the concept is cute, it becomes annoying. I’ll be in the zone and bam a scout pops up and interrupts my game. It’s by no means a deal breaker. Also if you have like 5 moves left and it doesn’t seem like you’re gonna win your character starts giving you disappointing looks, and gets all down. I find myself telling it, “Hey now you don’t know that I’m gonna loose this board, I could still pull it out somehow.” This game is right up my alley since I’m probably one of the free people that still plays Candy Crush. What games are you currently playing on your phone?
Hello lovelies. I finally made it to the theater this past weekend and got to watch Captain America: Civil War. First off when ever I do my reviews I try not to go too deep into thing, and post spoilers. With that being said it does make it hard to do reviews while trying not to giveaway too much.
Okay so here we go. The acting as always was spot on. I think for the most part we can all agree that acting isn’t a major concern when it comes to these movies. I loved the introduction of Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman, and am very happy with the the way he executed his part. Another character I was pleasantly surprised with was Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland. Look I’ll be honest I’m kinda over Spider-Man with all the movies and reboots, but this take on him was refreshing and spot on. In other words it’s the Spider-Man I always wanted. That’s just me, I’m sure not everyone feels the same way. Kudos to the writers for getting it right.
Story, overall I had a general idea of what to expect going in and was happy with the writing. I wasn’t sure exactly how it was going to be executed, but I think they did a good job with it. The only thing that wasn’t 100% for me was the villain. Like oaky I get why he did what he did, but something about him as the villain just didn’t make me believe it all the way. Not horrible, but I feel like maybe there could’ve been more, or maybe a different villain. Eh let’s move on from that because I’m clearly having a difficult time trying to translate how I feel.
Now on to action. Well I think we all know how that goes. It was full of cool fighting scenes, and explosions of course. I have to say that they didn’t go overboard or add things just to have action going on in the movie. The sequences came together and were well executed. I think fans will walk out happy with the scenes, and all the heroes kicking butt.
Overall I would give the movie a 4 out of 5. It was a great movie, with just the right amount of action. I would definitely go see it again. Now bring on Black Panther!! Did you watch Civil War? What are your thoughts?
Hello cupcakes. I’ve always been fascinated by what’s in my bag videos. It’s fun to see what other people carry, and if any of them have some of the dame things I do. So I decided to do a what’s in my schoolbag video since it is back to school times. I hope everyone enjoys it, and if you would like to see a regular what’s in my bag video let me know and I’ll be happy to do so. As always feedback and suggestions are welcome.
