5 Fandom Friday: Songs That Changed My Life

5-fandom-friday-338x250

Hello and welcome to another 5 Fandom Friday, super late edition. Once again I want to thank Megan from The Nerdie Girlie and Kristin from Super Space Chick for coming up with this awesome linkup. I’ve missed out on a few but just had to write up my piece for this past week’s theme, songs that changed my life. I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s post and have found new music to add to my iPod.

1. Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata

This is one of the first songs that really hit me in the feels. I remember years ago when I was a young girl listening to it and thinking it was the most beautiful thing I have heard. I still feel the same way. It instilled in me a love for classical music and years later it would be a big influence of my love affair with playing the cello.

2. Foo Fighters: Everlong

Where do I start??? Foo Fighters are one of my all time favorite bands ever, ever, ever. And it all started when I first heard Everlong. Growing up I listened to mostly hip hop and RnB (besides my love for classical music), and it wasn’t until I got older and met people from outside my group that I was exposed to other types of music. I have to thank my friend Jen for introducing to the greatness which is Dave Grohl. One day I plan on getting something Everlong related tattooed on me.

3. Nas: The Message

As I mentioned growing up I was big into hip hop, it played a major part in my teenage years. Biggie, KrS-One, Redman, Tupac all took turns in my yellow Sony walkman or boombox. This was back when the only way to access new music was to buy mixtapes by people like DJ Clue, Who Kid, Kay Slay, and Green Lantern to name a few. However Nas just won me over from day one. The Message was one of the first songs of his I ever heard and it was love at first listen. The beat and his flow sealed it for me. **Warning this song contains explicit language.**

4. Aventura: Romeo y Julieta

Like most people my age the first Aventura song I heard was Obession, however it wasn’t until I heard Romeo y Julieta that I went ga ga for them and have been hooked ever since. The words pulled me in and that’s all she wrote. Not only did it make me a fan of Aventura, but of Bachata in general.

5. Eagles: Hotel California

I know I said Beethoven was my first love but if  I’m being honest it was probably the Eagles since I’m sure I’ve been hearing this song since I was born. After all Hotel California was released almost a decade before I was born, and as far back as I can remember my mom would jam out to it in the house. What’s not to love about this song, great lyrics, awesome guitar riff and it reminds me of home. Whenever i’m missing California this is one of my go to songs.

Extra:

Michael Jackson and Jay Z: You Rocked My World Remix

Can I just tell you first off like most 80s babies MJ was a huge part of my musical life (yes I am aware I’m dating myself here). When I heard about Michael and Jay Z performing together at Summer Jam I was in disbelief and so disappointed I did not witness this first hand. Luckily the single was released soon after.

Fleetwood Mac: Dreams

Oh Stevie Nicks how I love you so. Picking one Fleetwood Mac song was a tough one but Dreams I think was the right one. And you just know I was all for it when American Horror Story Coven included the fabulous Ms. Nicks in their series.

As always I have enjoyed writing up this post. While it was difficult narrowing it down to 5 songs once I really began thinking about it I knew exactly which ones I wanted to go with. Till next time.
