PlayStation E3 Stream

Some of my picks from Playstation’s 2016 E3 conference.

On Monday night I like thousands of others found myself in front of a screen to watch Playstation’s E3 stream. I won’t be writing about all the titles from the event, or else this post will get too long. I will however share some of the ones that jumped out at me.

They kicked things off with an orchestra playing while a gameplay demo of  God of War was shown. We see Kratos and his son (I wish it would have been his daughter but ok), and a huge screen filling boss. While I never really got into the God of War franchise I could see myself playing this one.

From there it was nonstop with Sony doing little talking, and instead just showing titles. I won’t complain about that at all. We saw Days Gone by Bend Studio, an open world zombie apocalypse world kind of game. It gave me a vibe of Sons of Anarchy, zombie edition. I’m still deciding on whether or not I’ll be paying this.

Sony also gave us a release date for The Last Guardian due out October 25, 2016. This was a pleasant surprise since I honestly wasn’t expecting a date in 2016. I’ll be getting the tissues ready for this one, based of the trailer I’m sure I’m going to cry at some point.

Horizon: Zero Dawn has my full attention. Bad ass archer gal killing robo-dinosaurs? I’m here for it. The footage looked great, and you get dialogue wheel to choose options from. while watching footage it looks like time is slowed down when you’re trying to shoot your bow (not sure if this is correct, or if it will always be done), which is great for me since I’m not the best at aiming. Look for this to be released February 28, 2017.

The announcement of PlayStation VR being release October 13, 2016 caught a lot of people of guard. Originally there were rumors that it wouldn’t be ready until some time in 2017. Sony has said there will be about 50 games come release date with many more to come including Batman: Arkham, Star Wars Battlefront, and Metal Gear Solid among others.

However the one I’m most excited for is Resident Evil 7 biohazard. Guys before I even knew what I was watching I thought to myself okay this is giving me Resident Evil vibes, and sure enough that’s what it was. It’s going to be completely VR from start to finish. I’m not sure if my heart will be able to take horror and VR together, but I know I have to try this out.

Sony then pulled out all the stops when Hideo Kojima was bought on stage to announce his game Death Stranding. Okay so the trailer is elusive, and we’re not exactly sure what it will consist of, but the fact the Kojima is working on a collaboration has given me high hopes, and was the highlight of the conference. I can’t really explain this game other than saying butt naked, pregnant Norman Reedus, holding a baby. Yeah I know it sounds so bizarre, which is why you have to watch the trailer and you’ll see what I mean.

All in all I’m loving what I saw last night. I haven’t watched any of the other conferences so I can’t compare how Xbox fares to PlayStation, however the overall feeling I got from others who watched both seems to be that Sony knocked it out the ballpark. While we’re still anticipating release dates for many other titles *cough Kingdom Hearts 3 cough*, it was nice to see dates on many of the games announces last night; including the Crash Bandicoot series being remastered for PS4 due to be out sometime in 2017!

Have you watched any of the E3 streams? What games are you looking forward to?

Hello June

Goals and current obsessions for June.

I know we’re like almost halfway into June but I still wanted to share some of the things currently occupying my time, along with some goals. So here we go.

TV:

I’ve been trying to catch up on all the shows I missed during school. Finally caught up on The Walking Dead and OITNB. I started Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D and I’m really enjoying it. I also started and I’m caught up with Sherlock, so good! I’m going to be moving onto Fear of the Walking Dead, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Agent Carter, and hopefully finally diving into Doctor Who. I’m also currently staying up to date with Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, and Preacher.

Games:

I started playing WOW last month and have been enjoying it. I went on my first raid with my brother and I think I did pretty good. I also started playing Guild Wars 2 after hearing the gals over on Fake Goth Girls podcast rave about it. I’m still pretty new to it and I’m not entirely sure I’m doing it right, but I like it and will be sticking with it. And of course I’m playing Overwatch on PS4 and having loads of fun with it. Currently I enjoy playing as D.Va and Tracer.

Music:

Besides Hamilton, I’ve been listening to just different streams and Beyonce’s Lemonade. It’s so so good, and I can’t get enough of the visuals. If you have yet to watch the video/film, please do. The images, the poetry in between, so many beautiful strong women, check it out when you have time to pay attention to it all. I think I may have heard the album, like 100x and still every time Sandcastles comes on the tears start to flow. When Bey’s voice hits that one note and it kinda cracks, Lord it hits my feelings for so many reasons.  Sorry is just that song to throw on those days you feel like you’ve had about enough, and bounce around with your middle fingers up.

Goals

On to some June Goals:

  • Get to the beach at least 2x. Y’all know summer is my season, and I’m ready to feel the sand in my toes and smell the ocean.
  • Content, content, content. Just trying to get as much queued before August rolls around and school is back in session. So far I’ve been able to put out posts on a weekly basis, so that’s good.
  • Edit and upload more frequently to my Youtube channel. I have so much footage, including form my trip to Puerto Rico, but just haven’t really gotten around to editing.
  • Try to workout 2x a week. I’ll tell you right now, I’m already failing at this. Let’s see if I can make it up somehow.

What are some of the things you’re currently into? Do you have goals for June?

Why I’m Loving T Pain on Twitch

T Pain on Twitch is one of the most entertaining streamers I’ve seen.

So if you’ve been on Twitter you may have heard that T Pain was streaming on Twitch. At first I was like okay, no biggie, but then I was intrigued to go watch.

Watch live video from tpain on www.twitch.tv

Guess what? I was pleased with what I saw and heard. I think it’s just refreshing to see superstars be everyday people like you and me. Now I’m fully aware that many of the rich and famous play video games, however seeing it first hand is pretty awesome. As I watched and heard some of his comments, he became more like one of us. When he says at one point he was proud to have killed an opponent on Overwatch, I thought to myself that’s how I feel too when I finally eliminate someone. Check out video of his stream and see for yourself what the hype is about (you have to get about 7 or so minutes in before he appears). Currently his game of choice seems to be Overwatch on PC, but he’s also played Doom.

Watch live video from tpain on www.twitch.tv

Not sure how long this will last, or how frequent it will be. What I am sure of is that as long as he’s streaming, I’ll pop in and watch when I can. He’s commentary and peppering in of vocals (and yes he has a set of pipes) is everything. I’m here for gamer T Pain.

I’m Mermaidkisses on Twitch, as of now I have yet to stream, but plan to one day. Are you one Twitch? Let’s follow each other. If you don’t stream who are some of your favorite streamers?

What I’m Playing Now: Mobile Games

Hello cupcakes and welcome back. Today I want to share with you two games I’m currently addicted with. They help me kill time in between my meetings.

Stack

So as the title suggests this is pretty much a stacking game. The pieces move back and forth and you have to tap it at the right time to stack it on top of each other. Easy right? Not so easy actually. Whenever you miss stacking it correctly whatever amount or piece that’s hanging over the edge falls off, which now makes your piece smaller. And the higher you get the faster the pieces move back and forth. I’ve only made it to about 47 or so. It’s really entertaining and the color schemes are nice to look at. Every time you start a new game a new color scheme starts. The pieces start off as one color and gradually change.

Sailor Drops

Of course I’m playing Sailor Drops, how could I not. It’s a puzzle game where you match up lines of jewels (like Candy Crush but jewels instead), in order to score. Different combinations of matching make a special jewel. The levels vary from regular ole beat the score, to timed ones, collect the accessories, and one where you’re up against the villain. Everything is extra fun because of the Sailor Moon theme, well at least to me it is. However there are some downs. Initially it kinda lags a bit to start up, not like crazy but enough to be annoying at times. Also you get interrupted by the characters. Like you’ll be on a roll and all of a sudden whoever you’re playing as will pop up and cheer. While the concept is cute, it becomes annoying. I’ll be in the zone and bam a scout pops up and interrupts my game. It’s by no means a deal breaker. Also if you have like 5 moves left and it doesn’t seem like you’re gonna win your character starts giving you disappointing looks, and gets all down. I find myself telling it, “Hey now you don’t know that I’m gonna loose this board, I could still pull it out somehow.” This game is right up my alley since I’m probably one of the free people that still plays Candy Crush.
What games are you currently playing on your phone?

On the Big Screen~ Captain America: Civil War

Hello lovelies. I finally made it to the theater this past weekend and got to watch Captain America: Civil War. First off when ever I do my reviews I try not to go too deep into thing, and post spoilers. With that being said it does make it hard to do reviews while trying not to giveaway too much.

Okay so here we go. The acting as always was spot on. I think for the most part we can all agree that acting isn’t a major concern when it comes to these movies. I loved the introduction of Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman, and am very happy with the the way he executed his part. Another character I was pleasantly surprised with was Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland. Look I’ll be honest I’m kinda over Spider-Man with all the movies and reboots, but this take on him was refreshing and spot on. In other words it’s the Spider-Man I always wanted. That’s just me, I’m sure not everyone feels the same way. Kudos to the writers for getting it right.
Story, overall I had a general idea of what to expect going in and was happy with the writing. I wasn’t sure exactly how it was going to be executed, but I think they did a good job with it. The only thing that wasn’t 100% for me was the villain. Like oaky I get why he did what he did, but something about him as the villain just didn’t make me believe it all the way. Not horrible, but I feel like maybe there could’ve been more, or maybe a different villain. Eh let’s move on from that because I’m clearly having a difficult time trying to translate how I feel.

Now on to action. Well I think we all know how that goes. It was full of cool fighting scenes, and explosions of course. I have to say that they didn’t go overboard or add things just to have action going on in the movie. The sequences came together and were well executed. I think fans will walk out happy with the scenes, and all the heroes kicking butt.

Overall I would give the movie a 4 out of 5. It was a great movie, with just the right amount of action. I would definitely go see it again. Now bring on Black Panther!!
Did you watch Civil War? What are your thoughts?

Blind Box: Gudetama Cafe

Hello! Today I’m happy to share my  unboxing of the Gudetama Cafe blind boxes. These blind boxes are made by Rement, and are a little different than some of the other blind boxes out there. Unlike the Funko blind boxes, these are more of a set of items. Depending on the line it could be food, household items, school supplies, etc. The Gudetama Cafe ones are all food related, which I’m surer you figured out from the name.

DSC00556

I really enjoyed doing this video and plan on doing more in the future. I like that these are sets of things as oppose to just a figure, because I feel like I can use these to take some cute pictures with my Figmas and Sailor Moon figures. Don’t worry I’m still a fan of the Funko blind boxes, mainly the horror ones, and The Walking Dead line; and I plan on doing unboxing videos of those in the future.

Do you like blind boxes? Which are some of your favorites?

What I Watched: Creed

Hello cupcakes. Today I want to give a quick review for Creed. During the Thanksgiving break I was able to breakaway from studying for a few hours to catch a flick with the Mr. We decided to watch Creed. I know many people were like yeah that’s what we need another “Rocky” movie when they heard about this. I get it, the last couple bombed. However me being the Rocky fan that I am, I was looking froward to see where this movie would go.

I hate doing reviews because I never want to give away too much, but then sometimes I feel like I don’t give enough. First off can I say it wasn’t another “Rocky” movie per say. Yeah Stallone played Balboa, and it had to do with boxing; but it wasn’t about Rocky. It was about Apollo’s son and his coming into himself. It was kind of like a Rocky spinoff. So I don’t think these are spoilers but just in case here’s some of the details. The movie starts off in a juvenile detention center in California, where we meet a young Adonis Creed; Apollo’s son. A woman shows up which we immediately recognize as being Apollo’s wife, and takes Adonis home. We fast forward to present time, and soon find out that Adonis is following in his father’s footsteps, well somewhat. It isn’t so easy for him to find someone who wants to train him, he’s sorta blacklisted. He then picks up and heads out to Philadelphia, where he seeks out Balboa. However what kind of movie would it be if Rocky just agreed to being his trainer? So they have their back and forth before Rocky finally agrees.

So that’s the overall gist of it. Along the way young Creed finds a love interest, battles some inner conflict, and tried to figure out his place in all this.

Why I liked this movie, and you will too: well there are a few reasons. It sticks to the whole sports, overcoming barriers shtick without over doing it. It gives us what we want without making it obvious. I mean after all you came to see Creed, you kinda already know what you’re in store for. Yet it’s so much more than just boxing, even though that plays a big role. It’s also about human connections, and has a way of jabbing you right in the feels here and there (see what I did there? No? ok). It gets a bit corny, and that’s way okay. It’s not overdone, and peppered in nicely. even if you have no clue about boxing you can enjoy this movie. They do a nice job of keeping you in the loop.  Can I just add that the cinematography, which was by Maryse Alberti (The Wrestler), was spot on. Her work behind the lens made it easy to keep up with. And if you do follow boxing you’ll enjoyed the professionals from the boxing world that make cameos in the movie. Another aspect I enjoyed a lot was the music selection made. How many times have you been watching a movie and a song starts to play where you’re like um… no. With Creed I felt like all the music fit, and helped get you in the current mood it was going for.

Overall I really enjoyed the movie. The story was sorta expected; but not in a bad way, yet it also threw a curveball. The acting from all of the cast was great. I really enjoy this side of Stallone more than his usual tough guy roles. He’s funny, in his Balboa way. Michael B. Jordan was spot on, and I look forward to seeing more from him in future roles. A plus for me as a frequent visitor of Philadelphia was the scenery, and being able to recognize the locations. Even if you’ve never visited Philadelphia, I think most people are familiar with the famous “Rocky steps”, which of course had to be included. I give this film a 8 out of 10, and recommend it to everyone even if you’re not a fan of the Rocky franchise.

Did you watch Creed? What were your thoughts? Have you watched the first Rocky movie? What movies are you looking forward to watching?

I look forward to being able to catch up and reviewing loads of movies, and shows while on winter break. Shoot me some recommendations.

XOXO,

Desiree

NYCC 2015

Hello. It’s been awhile and I’ve been meaning to post, but life has been busy. This semester is really keeping me busy, good thing there’s only 6 weeks left. I wanted to share some pictures and video from our trip to New York Comic Con. Me and my family have been going for about the past 4 years and we really look forward to it.

This year however even though we enjoyed ourselves there were a couple of negatives. One of the biggest let downs was the lack of panels. I thought I was the only one that thought the panels were lacking, but after discussions with others this was one of the main complaints across the board. The other part was how crowded it was. Don’t get me wrong I expect a crowd but this year it was massive. Also it seemed people were a little less friendly this year. Not everyone of course, but more than usual. I’m also disappointed I didn’t get to meet as many of you fabulous people as I wanted to. Time was limited and the crowd made it hard to get around.

We still had a good time and my little guy left on cloud nine after receiving so many compliments on his cheeseburger back pack. He was Steven Universe and had a blast taking pictures with people. Here are a few pictures from the day and a video. E

Anyone else go to NYCC? What were your highlights? Did you encounter any problems? What con will you be attending next?

XOXO

Butterbeer and Fantastic Tales: The Wicked + The Divine

Hello and welcome back. A few weeks back I tweeted about wanting to get into comics and began to start looking into which ones to read. Over and over The Wicked + The Divine by Image Comics kept popping up, and with good reason. If you recall from my last post I mentioned that I begun to read The Wicked + The Divine. The comic began in June of 2014, and is published monthly, so I didn’t feel like I was too far behind.

Let me try to get into why without giving too much away. The comic revolves around the fact that every 90 years twelve mythical figures are reincarnated as young adults with godlike powers, minus the immortality that is. For 2 years they get to live like gods and then they die, so goes the story. We then meet a regular British gal named Laura that gets caught up with the current 12 Pantheon. While first drawn to this lifestyle, she soon starts to realize things aren’t all she expected it to be.

Why I like it, and you will to:

Well besides the main plot of mortal gods that have 2 years to live it up, there’s representation. I’m not just talking about diversity as far as races, but sexuality, and even when it comes to the gods (they don’t just stick to Greek or Roman, there’s also Norse, Celtic, and many more). Honestly this was one of the big things that really drew me in. I love representation and this comic is chock full of it. It’s refreshing to see people from all walks of life in a role of power. I also like that the characters morality vary also from good, to wicked and everything in between.

Of course there’s more to it but I don’t want to give away too much. I myself have only gotten up to book 5, but I can tell you they have a loyal reader already. I can’t wait to buy the other issues and catch up with the story. Oh and did I mention there’s talks of adapting it into a TV series? If this pans up I’m all for it!

So now we get to the fun part. Since I’m hooked on this comic I want to share my love of it with you. I’m giving you the opportunity to win your very own copy of  Vol 1 which is issues 1-5 of The Wicked + The Divine. All you have to do is follow the instructions on how to enter. Contest runs until September 24, 2015 (which just so happens to be my kid’s birthday).

Good Luck!!!

How I Won Fast with Fast Play

Hello loves.

Anyone who knows me or follows me knows from time to time I like to partake in the NJ Lottery. It’s so fun to me and I always envision all the fun things I can do if I won some extra cash. So when Blog Meets Brand reached out to me and said they would  give me $15 to try out NJ Lottery’s new play and win game Fast Play game I was all about it.

Fast Play is NJ Lottery’s new instant win game that can be purchased at the lotto terminal, however unlike drawing games you don’t wait for results, you know instantly. There’s no scratching required either like other instant games. You ask for one of the many different games they have such as Bling Bling Bucks ($5 each) or Red Hot Numbers ($1 each) and the ticket is printed for you.

Off I went to my favorite Quick Chek to purchase my tickets. You however can go to any store that sells NJ Lotto tickets such as 7-11 or your neighborhood bodega. If the store has a lottery then you can play there.

My Quick Chek had this Fast Play display which made buying tickets even easier! All I did was look at the different games available and pull the little slip for the ones I wanted. With new games coming out in the new few months these may change or others added to this list.

As you see each game has it’s own little ticket. I then went up to the lotto terminal and handed these slips over to the attendant who then ran them through the machine. How easy is that? No numbers to tell her, no fumbling with names.

Just like that I had my tickets and was ready to see if I won. Depending on the game you choose the tickets are printed differently and instructions on how to win are printed clearly on them. However finding out if you won is easy too. If you’re not sure if your ticket is a winner most lotto terminals have a little green scanner where you can check your tickets at.

Woo! One of my tickets won $7!! I thought it was a winner but wasn’t sure. When I scanned it that’s the message I got. This is so convenient for me since I can be a bit on the shy side sometimes (yes I have a hard time speaking to people at times, can you believe it?), with this I know for sure I won without having to ask anyone.

I then just gave my winning ticket to the attendant and received my cash. All in all it took about 5 minutes for me to purchase and check my tickets. It doesn’t get any easier and faster than that.

Overall I had fun playing the Fast Play games. They’re different from the games I’m used to playing, but different is good. Bling Bling Bucks is my favorite right now, but I’m excited to see what new games are introduced in the future.

Do you like playing any lottery games? If so what’s the most you’ve won. If you play the Fast Play games let me know how your experience went and how much you won. Good luck everyone!
